My Buddy, Jack

Preston has a BFF, and his name is Jack Nelson. Jack was born two weeks before Preston, and they have been best buds ever since! Erin (Jack's mom) and I have been friends since high school, and she has been a tremendous help to us since Preston arrived. Funny that we used to talk about where we were going out or crazy stories from our previous nights out on the town. Now we talk about poop consistency and nap schedules. Sigh. But I know neither of us would trade it for the world! Just look at our little men! Holding hands with my BFF- 8 months old

We are both happy babies! If only I could steal some of Jack's hair...

Babyproofing

It has been an exciting week around here. Preston decided that he would start crawling, stand up in his crib, and FINALLY cut his first tooth! The crawling isn't too impressive yet because he likes to stop after a few moves and rest. Crawling is hard work! And we moved the crib down to the lowest setting so he can't climb out of it. The problem with lowering the crib is that the sheets are nearly impossible to change now. If only I had some go-go-gadget arms!

Let the babyproofing begin...

We also spent the beginning of this week switching to a bigger car seat. You would think that putting a car seat in your vehicle would be an easy task, but that is a myth. They give you instructions that might as well be written in Chinese, and the pictures that go along with it make no sense. Even though I have a masters degree, I couldn't figure it out. Clint and I had to work together (and argue along the way) to get it installed, but we did it! Phew!

Here are some giggles for you. Preston loves to eat his stinky socks- he is gifted, for sure. He thinks it is hilarious when you play with them...

Video

I forgot to add a video to yesterday's post, so here is one with lots of 'tricks" on it. Some grunting, sitting up, and making razz noises. Enjoy!

Laughter is the best medicine

8 Months Old!!

Preston is 8 months old today--hard to believe! He has changed so much, especially in the past few months. Babbling, squealing, sitting up, feeding himself, rolling around, fake coughing, and laughing are some of his "tricks" at the moment. And, of course, pooping. (2 outfits with his elephant today were a result of pooping up the back of the first outfit!) He will be crawling any minute and teeth will show up soon, too. But listening to him laugh is BY FAR my favorite thing to do. The best part is that he thinks I'm funny!! YES!

Here I am sitting up in my crib!

I'm a lumberjack!
For some reason last night he decided to scream from around 2:30 am until almost 4 am. I finally caved in and fed him around 3:45. (I know I shouldn't have done it, but I needed to go back to sleep and it was the only thing that made him happy!) As soon as he finished eating he started babbling and giggling at me. As exhausted as I was, and frustrated with him for keeping me up half the night, I couldn't help but smile back at him. I guess laughter is the best medicine for tired moms.

Haaaay! You can't stay mad at me for long!

What Is A Birthday Week Without A Little Poo?

Who has chubby cheeks and loves his daddy? THIS Guy!

Today is Clint's 32nd birthday, so Preston wanted me to post a little story today. As most of you know, we celebrate birthday WEEKS here in the Hooker household. So this has been Clint's special week where I wait on him hand and foot and let HIM boss ME around. (You know that's a change!) Preston didn't want to sit this one out, so he has been doing his part to help out in making Clint's week a special one. He started his contributions last Friday with some projectile vomit before bed. I swear it hit everything within a 4 foot radius, including me. (Actually, MOST of it hit me!) So Clint got to help clean it up. Saturday morning Preston decided that he should do that again, so Clint was fortunate enough to get up early and help clean us both up again. Later that day Preston decided that he was bored with spewing, so he decided to move on to pooping. Not pooping IN his diaper, but pooping out the sides, up the back, etc. He has continued this poopfest for the past few days. I think HE thinks we enjoy scrubbing poo out of his clothes, sheets, and hair. The best one was a few mornings ago-- Clint went to get him out of bed and he had managed to get one arm stuck inside his pjs, unbuttoned one pant leg and got his leg out, AND had poo up his back, on his smooshed arm, and on his flailing leg.
Clint LOVES all of the attention he is getting, but I think I'm ready for his birthday week to be over.
Happy Birthday, Daddy!

Baby Jay

Since Clint and I both went to The University of Kansas (NATIONAL CHAMPS), we have been working on Preston's loyalty since he was born. We religiously read his "The University of Kansas 101" board book- complete with his picture in cap and gown at the end. He should graduate around 2030, unless he decides to be a doctor, lawyer, or partier. Then it might take longer. (Our fingers are crossed for doctor or lawyer so we can retire early...)He displays many KU t-shirts, sweatshirts, jogging suits, and hats with pride. "My team is better than your team"

Recently he has become a big fan of the fight song. He likes the chorus best and always smiles when I sing it. Don't critique my singing in the video, just enjoy his smile.

In case you were wondering, here are the words (that I don't sing right):
'Cause I'm a Jay, Jay,
Jay, Jay, Jayhawk
Up in Lawrence on the Kaw.
'Cause I'm a Jay, Jay,
Jay, Jay, Jayhawk
With a sis-boom, hip hoorrah.
Got a bill that's big enough
To twist the Tiger's tail,
Husk some corn and listen
To those Cornhuskers wail.
'Cause I'm a Jay, Jay,
Jay, Jay, Jayhawk
Riding on a Kansas Gale.

Click this link to see pics from Preston's arrival up to 6 months. There is a ridiculous amount of pictures here, so it takes a minute to load. And it will probably take you an hour to look at them all! I'm aware that I take too many pictures, so there is no need to make fun of me.

A few more...

Ho Ho Ho! Merry Christmas!
A classic photo-- fall '08

I'm TOTALLY a babe magnet!

Here is the continuation of Preston's pictures with his elephant and a few others that are more recent.

Time To Blog

As a result of all the bloggers out there, we have decided to start one to chart our progress here in the Hooker household. I'm sure the majority of it will be about Preston Douglas (aka P Diddy), our little man born May, 23, 2008. We'll use this site to keep you up to date on his latest accomplishments. So far pooping and getting food on his face seem to be his greatest feats. Actually, he is sitting up, feeding himself, and is on the brink of crawling now, so we are getting our running shoes ready. Here are a few pictures from his first 4 months of life. Enjoy!
