Haircut

We finally decided to do a mini-haircut for Preston today. The LONG swoop in the front was just a bit much...don't worry, though. He still has a mohawk 'cause it won't grow on the sides. And the rattail is still in full effect. Back off, ladies...he's too young for you. Bath Mohawk

Don't I look handsome with my new haircut??

My Funny Valentine

Happy Valentine's Day!

Hope you all have a nice day today. Preston celebrated by coming to visit me at school yesterday afternoon. The kids LOVE him! He gave them all Fun Dip Valentines. Yummy! Then Clint and I went out to dinner last night at my favorite restaurant, Carmen's Cafe, in Brookside. Despite my horrible garlic breath this morning, it was a very nice evening. Here are a few videos of Preston this morning. He is moving all over the place now!

Confessions of a Bad Mom

Ok, you might be shocked to know this, but I am NOT perfect. Far from it. Instead of telling you about ALL of my faults, I'll focus on the most recent. As a mom, I have made many mistakes already, and Preston is only 8 months old. Here are a few of the highlights:
  1. Not taking a blanket to the pediatrician's office for our 1 month check-up. In my defense, it WAS 100 degrees outside that day, so I didn't think about it. But the "kind" nurse gave me a stern lecture on always bringing blankets for small babies anywhere you go. I promptly put 2 burp cloths over him to warm him up. I have never forgotten a blanket since!
  2. Getting yelled at by someone in his car while on a walk with Preston. This was on one of the small side streets by my house. Little to no traffic at any time. Seriously. Maybe one car goes down the street in a 4 hour time period. I was wanting to cross the street, and was on the curb right next to the sidewalk while this courteous man was driving by. I was waiting patiently for him to pass so I could then cross the street. He slowed down and yelled, "GET ON THE SIDEWALK WITH THE BABY, LADY!" Nice. I swear he yelled like I was running down the middle of the street with Preston's arms flopping out of the crib while dodging cars and rabid dogs. Either way, now I'm always cautious to be ON the sidewalk even if it is a street with no cars and the speed limit is 10mph.
  3. The most recent bad mommy moment came about yesterday. As you know, I'm slightly obsessed with taking pictures/videos of Preston. Here is one of him playing with his celly telly yesterday.

"Sup, ladies!"

And another of him sitting and thinking about where he wants to go next.

So many things to do...

Well, after these silly pics, we were playing an exciting game of "I'm Gonna Get You" which consists of crawling around the couch and catching each other. Here we are at the beginning.

I'm gonna get you, Mom!

After he gets me, I crawl to the other side of the couch and sneak up on him. He loves it, and anticipates which side he thinks I will come to next. When I "get" him, he cracks up. So I decided I should get a picture of him laughing while playing this game. Bad idea, Mom. Instead of getting a picture of him laughing, I got this one:

Aaaaahhhhh! Help me!!!

Yes, he is mid-fall and about to smack his head on the floor. My lightning-speed-mom reflexes were not quick enough, so his noggin nailed the ground before I could get to it. If he doesn't go to med school now, I'll take the blame. I still feel terrible, but am sure similar things will happen in the future. I just hope I'm not holding the camera when they do...

I'm Cool...

Some footage of our little man standing up all by himself. And falling down. And standing up again. And falling down again. I'm sure the falling down will happen MANY times in the future. You may notice that he is wearing SMS colored pants...that's no coincidence.

My Buddy, Jack

Preston has a BFF, and his name is Jack Nelson. Jack was born two weeks before Preston, and they have been best buds ever since! Erin (Jack's mom) and I have been friends since high school, and she has been a tremendous help to us since Preston arrived. Funny that we used to talk about where we were going out or crazy stories from our previous nights out on the town. Now we talk about poop consistency and nap schedules. Sigh. But I know neither of us would trade it for the world! Just look at our little men! Holding hands with my BFF- 8 months old

We are both happy babies! If only I could steal some of Jack's hair...

Babyproofing

It has been an exciting week around here. Preston decided that he would start crawling, stand up in his crib, and FINALLY cut his first tooth! The crawling isn't too impressive yet because he likes to stop after a few moves and rest. Crawling is hard work! And we moved the crib down to the lowest setting so he can't climb out of it. The problem with lowering the crib is that the sheets are nearly impossible to change now. If only I had some go-go-gadget arms!

Let the babyproofing begin...

We also spent the beginning of this week switching to a bigger car seat. You would think that putting a car seat in your vehicle would be an easy task, but that is a myth. They give you instructions that might as well be written in Chinese, and the pictures that go along with it make no sense. Even though I have a masters degree, I couldn't figure it out. Clint and I had to work together (and argue along the way) to get it installed, but we did it! Phew!

Here are some giggles for you. Preston loves to eat his stinky socks- he is gifted, for sure. He thinks it is hilarious when you play with them...

I forgot to add a video to yesterday's post, so here is one with lots of 'tricks" on it. Some grunting, sitting up, and making razz noises. Enjoy!

Laughter is the best medicine

8 Months Old!!

Preston is 8 months old today--hard to believe! He has changed so much, especially in the past few months. Babbling, squealing, sitting up, feeding himself, rolling around, fake coughing, and laughing are some of his "tricks" at the moment. And, of course, pooping. (2 outfits with his elephant today were a result of pooping up the back of the first outfit!) He will be crawling any minute and teeth will show up soon, too. But listening to him laugh is BY FAR my favorite thing to do. The best part is that he thinks I'm funny!! YES!

Here I am sitting up in my crib!

I'm a lumberjack!
For some reason last night he decided to scream from around 2:30 am until almost 4 am. I finally caved in and fed him around 3:45. (I know I shouldn't have done it, but I needed to go back to sleep and it was the only thing that made him happy!) As soon as he finished eating he started babbling and giggling at me. As exhausted as I was, and frustrated with him for keeping me up half the night, I couldn't help but smile back at him. I guess laughter is the best medicine for tired moms.

Haaaay! You can't stay mad at me for long!
